Perforation

Now you see it...

Two perforation options. The 0.5 mm finest perforation gives a more subtle effect and is virtually invisible even at arm’s length. The 1 mm holes classic perforation is lower cost and provides a slightly larger open area while remaining discreet.

classic 3 / 3 / 1 mm

Hole diameter
1 mm
Centre to centre
3.0 mm square grid
Open surface
8.7%
Density
111,111 holes/m²

The visible perforation, and the higher open area of the two. Suits large ceiling sails, wall panels and cabinetry.

finest 1.7 / 2.0 / 0.5 mm

Hole diameter
0.5 mm
Centre to centre
1.7 and 2.0 mm, 60° offset
Open surface
5.77%
Density
294,118 holes/m²

Reads as a near-closed surface at normal viewing distance. The pattern is directional, so panels must be aligned the same way on assembly, even in plain decors.

Both patterns are shown at 1:1, so what you see here is the size the holes actually are. The notation gives hole spacing across, hole spacing down, then hole diameter. Boards are drilled with a hole-free edge zone, and other patterns are available on request. Figures are from the proline classic and proline finest data sheets.

Acoustic furniture

A cupboard that swallows the bass

Joinery is usually the enemy of good acoustics. A run of cabinet doors is a large, flat, hard surface that reflects almost everything that hits it. Build those doors from proline finest instead and the same run starts working for the room.

What makes it effective is the void that a cabinet already has. A micro-perforated board with a deep air gap behind it becomes a resonant absorber, and the deeper the gap the lower the frequencies it reaches. Measured over a 400 mm cavity, the furniture board returns an absorption coefficient of 0.70 at 100 Hz and 0.71 at 200 Hz, giving αw 0.75 and absorber class C.

Low frequencies are the hard part of any acoustic scheme. Thin surface treatments barely touch them, and dedicated bass traps cost floor area. A wall of storage that was going in anyway can do that work instead, while still reading as plain joinery.

The board is decorative on both sides, so the inside of the door is finished too. Standard size is 2,800 x 1,310 mm in 19 mm MDF, with veneer or CPL surfaces.

proline finest furniture board used as a cabinet door, micro-perforated on the face, shown open on its hinges
The perforated face carries straight to the edge, so a door reads as solid timber until you are close enough to see the holes.
