Sustainability
Made in Germany, made to last
Every akustikplus absorber is manufactured at a single site in Stephanskirchen, Bavaria, from wood sourced through a certified chain of custody. Short supply lines, durable materials and mounting systems designed to allow easy disassembly and redeployment. We believe that circularity is the real secret to sustainability.
How we work
One production site
We manufacture in Stephanskirchen, Germany, and nowhere else. Everything is developed, pressed, veneered, produced and packed on one 11,000 square metre site, which keeps transport between production stages close to zero and means every panel is made under the same controls.
Certified timber sourcing
The factory holds both PEFC and FSC Chain-of-Custody certification. The PEFC certificate is issued to akustikplus for acoustic components for room acoustics, using the physical separation method, so certified wood is kept physically apart from uncertified material through the whole process. FSC chain of custody covers the same Stephanskirchen production site under licence FSC-C021181.
Built for reuse
Specify a rail or clip fixing and the panel, the substructure and the fixings all separate by design. proline hangs on galvanised steel strips, slimline is held on battens by a stainless steel mounting clip, and smartline can be rail mounted. Panels lift out without cutting or splitting, so they can be relocated within a scheme or reused on another project. Adhesive fixing is the exception: a bonded panel cannot be removed undamaged, so where reuse matters, specify the mechanical fixing.
Low-emission materials
Our panels are classified E1 for formaldehyde emissions to DIN EN 16516, and the designline carrier is a PET fibre board made from around 60 percent recycled content and free of PVC.
Certified management systems
Manufacturing at the Stephanskirchen site operates under ISO 9001 quality management, ISO 14001 environmental management and ISO 50001 energy management, all certified by TUV NORD CERT and audited within a three year term.
Designed to last decades
A real timber acoustic panel is not a consumable. Solid MDF and HDF carriers with real wood veneer or CPL surfaces can be cleaned, repaired and kept in service for the life of the building, which is the single largest factor in the environmental footprint of any interior product.
Circularity
Designed for disassembly
Circularity depends on how a panel is fixed. These are the systems in our current catalogues and what can actually be recovered from each at strip-out.
proline
ReusablePanel strip PL16/48 hung on a galvanised steel wall strip WL21/48
The panel is suspended rather than glued, so it lifts clear on the same 16 mm clearance that creates the visible shadow gap. Panel, strips and screws all come away intact and can be refitted elsewhere in the building or reused in another scheme.
slimline
ReusableTongue and groove joint on battens, secured with the akustikplus mounting clip (item 412084, stainless steel)
Held mechanically by the clip rather than bonded, so panels unclip without damaging the decorative face or the core board. The stainless steel clips are a durable component, not a consumable, and the batten substructure is screw-fixed and reusable.
smartline, rail installation
ReusableMounting rail for wall or ceiling
Clips slide out and panels lift off the rail, giving a fully demountable build-up. This is the option to specify where reuse or future flexibility is a project requirement.
smartline, adhesive installation
Not reusablePanel bonded directly to the wall substrate
Intended for simple wall applications and self-installers rather than commercial projects. A bonded panel cannot be reliably removed without damaging it, so do not rely on adhesive fixing where reuse matters.
- Reduces waste to landfill at fit-out, refurbishment and lease-end strip-out, because panels, rails and clips can be recovered rather than thrown in a skip.
- Extends the service life of the material across more than one building, spreading its embodied carbon over a longer period of use.
- Supports whole life carbon and circular economy statements at RIBA Stages 2 to 4, and informs responses in BREEAM and similar frameworks.
- Keeps services behind the cladding accessible for maintenance without replacing the acoustic finish.
