Hourglass
Amsterdam, Netherlands
The Hourglass, in the Zuidas financial district, is a striking mixed-use construction project in the heart of Amsterdam. The elegant swaying silhouette of the 19-storey high-rise building is modelled on and named after an hourglass. Dam & Partners Architecten took inspiration from Brancusi's geometric works of art, incorporating a natural stone facade and creating a building that is both timeless and contemporary. The economical use of materials gives the Hourglass a classic and international appearance.
The Hourglass is a multi-use building with modern offices, an elegant hotel, first-class restaurants and bars as well as many shopping opportunities. akustikplus's long-term partner MATUDE SL took care of the interior design. The staircases and wall cladding between the levels are acoustically effective and are elegantly incorporated into the design. Our subtle, almost invisible micro-perforation "finest" was chosen for this project. The surface finish in European smoked oak gives a luxurious feel and creates a warm and natural feeling of space despite the large floor space and high ceilings.
